porphyry deposit near Meteetse, Wyoming withdrawn from exploration even though it contained >$1 billion in resources. Some nearby silver veins

were so rich that AMAX recovered channel samples in veins that typically assayed >100 ounces/ton silver over the width of the veins.

Discovery of some of the largest iolite deposits in the world made by the author in the 1990s and early 2000s. L-R (group of faceted iolites with two rubies from Palmer Canyon, three faceted iolites from Palmer Canyon and iolite in place at Grizzly Creek. Some of the Grizzly Creek material included recovered gemstones >25,000 carats, while stones left in place were estimated to weigh in the hundreds of thousands to millions of tons. At the end of my tenure at the WSGS, I resigned due to the incompetence of the management of the Survey, I had begun working on a third deposit that may contain as much as 2.4 trillion carats of iolite based on resource estimates. At a value of $30 to 150/carat, one might image that the national debt could be covered by the value of this deposit.
